25th Congress of Chongryon Held

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- The 25th Congress of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) took place at the Korean Hall of Culture in Tokyo on May 28 and 29.

The congress was attended by Ho Jong Man, chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, Pak Ku Ho, first vice-chairman and director of the Organizational Department of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, Nam Sung U, Pae Jin Gu, Jo Il Yon, Song Kun Hak and Kang Chu Ryon, vice-chairpersons of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, the chairman of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon, members and advisers of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, the director of the Research Institute on History of Korean Residents in Japan, chairpersons of Chongryon headquarters, leading officials of the central leadership bodies and affiliates, members of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon, and deputies chosen from the institutions, organizations and affiliates of Chongryon at all levels.

Nam Sung U read out "Let Us Open a New Era of Rejuvenation of Chongryon by Enlisting the Inexhaustible Strength of the Compatriots of Various Social Strata", a letter sent by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un to the participants in the congress.

At the congress a credentials report was made and the agenda items "On the report on the work of the Chongryon Central Committee presented to the 25th Congress of Chongryon", "On the settlement of accounts and draft budget" and "On the election of officials of Chongryon central body" were adopted.

Pak Ku Ho made a report at the congress.

The reporter reviewed the 24th-term work of Chongryon and referred to the main tasks of its 25th-term work.

He stressed that Kim Jong Un's letter is an encyclopedic library for the Juche-based patriotic movement which comprehensively elucidates the general orientation and tasks of the Chongryon and the movement of Koreans in Japan and the ways to carry them out, adding that it serves as an undying banner guaranteeing the eternal victory of Chongryon.

He said that the congress is the one of the single-hearted unity, succession and innovation to hold President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il in higher esteem as the eternal sun of the nation and build a new milestone for the development of the movement of Koreans in Japan under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.

He called on the deputies to hold fast to the historic letter as an ever-victorious treasured sword, further consolidate the single-hearted unity of the ranks and make great innovations in the units under their charge to bring about the happiness of the compatriots and the future of the rising generations.

Speeches were made on the first agenda item.

The participants heard and watched congratulatory messages and videos from different institutions and organizations and officials of the homeland, overseas compatriots' organizations, Japanese organizations and personages, foreign friendly organizations and south Korean figures from all walks of life.

Congratulatory speeches were made by personages of political parties, social organizations and solidarity and friendship bodies of Japan.

Representatives of the Korean schoolchildren in Japan entered the venue of the congress to warmly congratulate the 25th Congress.

Ri Myong Yu, chairman of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon, made a report on the work of the committee.

Under the second and third agenda items, a committee for financial settlement and budget examination and a committee of model officials of the Chongryon Central Committee were formed.

The report to the congress was adopted as its resolution.

A report of the committee for financial settlement and budget examination was delivered and the results of the examination were adopted with unanimous approval.

Ho Jong Man was elected as chairman of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon.

Also, elected were the first vice-chairperson and vice-chairpersons of the Central Standing Committee, the director general of its General Affairs Department, and members of the Central Committee of Chongryon and members of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon.

A letter to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un was adopted at the congress.

At the end of the congress, the First Meeting of the 25th Central Committee of Chongryon was held, at which the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon was formed and the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon elected.

During the congress, there was a photo exhibition showing the undying exploits of Kim Jong Un and the stirring reality of the DPRK and the struggle of institutions at all levels under Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.

A music and dance performance was given and an exhibition held to show the achievements made in developing the national education of Chongryon. -0-
