American Endemic - Racism

Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted on December 10, 1948 at the 3rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) stipulates that “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”

As has been written in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, all the rights and freedoms granted to humankind cannot be changed according to their colours.

However, there exists a barren land of human rights on earth where people must only submit tamely to severe racial discrimination and mental anguish and pains resulting from it, due to false “crime” of being a different race and non-white.

That is none other than the U.S.

Some time ago, AP of the U.S. published an investigation report of a specialized agency which revealed that the police authority of Minneapolis, Minnesota was involved in all kinds of racial discrimination during the last ten years while discriminating the blacks more than the whites during law enforcement.

According to the report, the rate of black people being stopped for questioning or arrested for different reasons are much higher than the whites, and it has become an accepted custom that people do feel unease owing to successive violence against non-whites and outpouring of racial discriminatory remarks.

The report also criticised the police saying that the difference in race has a serious impact on law enforcement but no follow-up measures are taken, noting that the police secretly watched black people and their social organizations that had nothing to do with crimes.

This shows that the different acts of racial discrimination by the police are committed under the protection of the police authority and the tacit approval of the U.S. government.

It is none other than the U.S. where the human rights are trampled underfoot for only one reason that they are different in colours.

No wonder that the media of the U.S. and the world also lamented that the ever-worsening act of racial discrimination committed by the police is an incurable endemic, exposing the dismal human rights situation of the U.S.

According to the American newspaper “USA Today”, hundreds of ethnic minorities were killed by the police during the one-year period since George Floyd, a black man was killed by a policeman. It is also said that in Minnesota alone, about 470 people were killed by law enforcers from the year 2000 until now.

The British newspaper “The Guardian” brought to light the fact that the U.S. police killed an average of 1,100 people every year during the last 10 years, citing the death of 1,136 people in the year 2021 and that of 249 people from January to March 24 this year.

What is a sight to see is that politicians in the U.S., which has the poor record of human rights, are apt to make an impertinent remark about the human rights situation of other countries.

History will surely pass a judgement on the U.S. for its impudent act of violating human rights.
