KCNA Commentary Hits out at Japan's Projected Constitutional Revision

Pyongyang, May 19 (KCNA) -- Japan is working hard to specify the status of the "Self-Defense Forces" (SDF) in the constitution.

Days ago, PM Suga stressed the need to clarify the status of SDF, saying it is natural for the Diet to discuss constitutional revision to that effect.

Meanwhile, former PM Abe insisted that the debate over whether or not the existence of SDF runs counter to the constitution should be ended, calling for opening up a "new era" by revising the constitution.

Such rubbish hints at Japan's risky move to realize the old dream for the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" by revising the constitution at all costs in the face of strong public opposition at home and abroad. The projected constitutional revision is aimed to turn Japan into a full-fledged war-capable aggressor state.

The Japanese politicians' projected constitutional revision is not merely an internal affair of a country but an international one as it is a frontal challenge to the efforts for ensuring global peace and an open declaration of war against humankind.

As known, the current constitution of Japan stipulates its eternal renouncement of war and use of armed forces and a ban on its possession of combat power in accordance with the UN Charter and the international community's demand.

Japan should have responded to the humankind's call for peace with its honest observance of core articles specified in its constitution.

But Japan has made desperate efforts to turn itself, which renounced war, into a war-capable country, remaining unchanged in its wild ambition for launching reinvasion to avenge the past defeat.

It paved the path for invading other countries any moment by adopting in 2015 the "security legislation" comprising the "law on readjustment of the peace and security law" and the "law on support for international peace" concerning the dispatch of SDF troops to foreign soil.

Not content with enacting the law on referendum in 2007 to enable the revision of the pacifist constitution through referendum, it has recently passed a draft bill on its retrogressive revision at a constitutional examination by the House of Representatives.

It is as clear as noonday that such moves will make Japan a dangerous state capable of launching reinvasion and thus bring irreversible disasters to the world.

That's why the Japanese people and the international community strongly oppose the projected constitutional revision, condemning it as a design for reviving a war state.

No matter how desperately the rulers of Japan try to "justify" the revision, they cannot cover up their true nature as criminals working hard to realize the ambition for reinvasion.

It was proved by history long ago that those running amuck to destroy global peace and security are bound to meet tragic ruin.

If Japan fails to draw a lesson from its past defeat, such tragedy will repeat. It is good for Japan to always remember it. -0-
