Through many decades, the correct understanding of nationalism and its creation by the countries of the world, was often inconsistent with its true values and abused for their own particular purposes. Nationalism has been used many times in a negative way for justification to US imperialist aggression and exploitation of other countries. Nationalism has been used by the capitalist system as an excuse for exploitation and oppression. Word capitalist states justifying their acts as a defence of interests to colonial nations. Is proper to say, that nationalism has been perverted by the process of bourgeois class domination and imperialist ruling states and used to defend their interests. The most known imperialists' machinations of wrong implementing not correctly nationalism are 'globalization' and 'integration'. The two aspects are just hidden from the truth of capitalist domination and expanding exploitation for profits and bourgeois interests.
The true nationalism does not conflict with the interests of other countries, is not against sovereignty rights and independence from other countries. Is just on contrary, a country that protects its nationalist values helps other countries achieve independence. Nationalism is not a tool to class domination or put a more important interest of a nation over other nations like the US imperialist and their alliances does.
Correct nationalism was not explained much better than ever seen anywhere like one of Kim Jong Il's works titled: 'Having a Correct Understanding of Nationalism'. Kim Jong Il in his work made the correct explanation of the nature of the correct nationalism and analyzed the reactionary nature of bourgeois nationalism with interactions between communism and nationalism, nationalism and internationalism.
The essentials of true and right nationalism is understanding that nations and societies are divided by various classes and strata as it is on the basis of Marxist - Leninist principles. Therefore both of these factors are inseparable and dominated by historical and material conditions of the country as a whole, and creating the shape of character to nationalism in its own country. There is no conflict in the social interests of classes and strata under correct progress of nationalism trend. In socialist country like DPRK there is no conflict of different interests of the classes and strata as it is to other capitalist states which creates conflicts and it distorts the ideas of true nationalism.
Great Leader Kim Jong Il says that correct nationalism is the result of all classes and strata reflects their feelings, inspirations and striving for one nation. Under the banner of the revolutionary Juche Idea, Korean Nation is fully united in expressing correct and creative nationalism. Korean nationalism is based on vivacious patriotism and spirit of self - defence, self - reliance and independence guided by Songun and Juche Philosophy.
The truly revolutionary communist party - Workers Party of Korea is continually working to build up a correct Korean nationalism with love for the nation and defence of its interests. WPK is also strengthening Korean Nation in the true spirit of nationalism to wider values in internationalism. Only in socialist society as the DPRK state has, the correct and advanced nationalism can be developed into communist internationalism, because the revolutionary movement is realizing the independence of the masses of the people to themselves and other countries in the process of national and social liberation. In true and correct nationalism, a free and independent country as DPRK helps and is supported by internationalist solidarity to other foreign societies. In this sense, we can point out that internationalism is a wider explanation of nationalism.
The DPRK country is guided by right nationalism and honorable values - successively bringing achievements to fully united society and compliance of goals and aspirations in the process of building advanced socialism in the march towards full communism.
