Beware of the so-called "experts of the DPRK " and fake friends of the DPRK !

Today UK KFA received a telephone call from an elderly supporter who told us how a friend of hers had been to a lecture on the DPRK given by so-called "expert on the DPRK " Prof Hazel Smith , in fact Prof Smith is a notorious DPRK basher (more about that later ) .
Our supporter had carefully written down what Prof Smith had said about the DPRK and asked for our opinion . It would appear that Prof Smith had tried her best to downplay the achievements of People's Korea and plant weasel like misinformation .
Prof Smith said that the DPRK had "almost universal schooling " ? Does not sound too unreasonable does it ? Well in fact the DPRK has universal schooling with schools on the mountains and on islands . Educational spending has gone up all the time in the DPRK . The DPRK has a 100 per cent literacy rate verified by UNESCO .
Prof Smith also said that "only 35 per cent of high school students in the DPRK go on to university " . Wait a minute "only 35 % " .... This is actually a very high figure , meaning more than 1 in 3 probably the highest in the world . Unlike the UK and other capitalist countries there are no university fees .
Then Prof Smith really got out the poison ! She said that the DPRK population is " economically badly off " . How does she know ? In fact in the DPRK people receive free education , free medical care , virtually free housing , there is no unemployment and taxation was abolished in 1974. How can this be badly off. Also many people in the DPRK have mobile phones .Has Prof Smith noticed that there are foodbanks in the UK and homeless people ,probably not , too busy drinking latte coffees etc ,
Lastly , Prof Smith claimed that DPRK diplomats are engaged in criminal activities such as counterfeiting , smuggling and even the narcotics trade ! This sounds like it has come straight from the CIA ! .There is no proof . In fact drug dealing in the DPRK is strictly illegal and is severely punished .
Just exactly who is Prof Hazel Smith ? Well despite some people trying to present her as friend of the DPRK she is actually an enemy of the DPRK and author of several very anti-DPRK books . She was awarded a medal by George Bush the first . Also she had worked with the south Korean puppet "Ministry of Unification.
So beware so called "academic experts on the DPRK " and fake liberal friends of the DPRK !
