When the north and south of Korea are engaging in the process of reconciliation and reunification, the BBC broadcast a series of reports supposedly about "Life In North Korea" on the mid-morning television programme "The Victoria Derbyshire Show". This programme became something akin to the worst kind of cold war propaganda, gearing up the population of the UK to hate the DPRK (North Korea).
"The Victoria Derbyshire Show" has had a good track in campaigns which are close to the hearts of its viewers, on such domestic issues as Foodbanks and poverty in the UK. By participating in a spectacle which promoted falsehoods about the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, "The Victoria Derbyshire Show" did a grave disservice to its viewers. Actually, the audience to this programme would have been put off "The Victoria Derbyshire Show" by its dissemination of tired old cliches about the DPRK.
Shown on "The Victoria Derbyshire Show" were short cartoon type films
with voiceovers by alleged disgruntled DPRK citizens. The programme had
no proper verification about what was being said with regard to the
situation on the ground in the DPRK. Most likely the information came
from disreputable sources like "The Daily NK". "The NK Daily" has even
been reprimanded by The Ministry of National Unification in south Korea
for its extremism. Displaying childish cartoons on the screen cannot
alter the social system of Peoples Korea, where the population enjoys
national independence and dignity.
Our branch sees no purpose in the kind of disinformation which was put forward by "The Victoria Derbyshire Show". Really the mass media should be publicizing good relations between the UK and the DPRK through cultural exchanges. We hope that the British public will make up its own mind and reject the kind of nonsense on North Korea (The DPRK) being pushed by the BBC. Discover the real Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea and join the Korean Friendship Association!!
