Pyongyang, May 25 (KCNA) -- Jang Jun Sang, minister of Public Health who is heading the DPRK public health delegation, on May 22 made a speech at the 71st World Health Assembly in Geneva of Switzerland.
He said:
Our theme "Health for all: commit to universal health coverage", central to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, reflects the unanimous will of the international community aspiring for the realization of "Health for All", and we fully support this very theme.
UHC, unless the health services are transformed from the money-based into the human-centered services, cannot practically contribute to the sound health and well-being of the people. UHC is inconceivable without the proficient medical staff, sufficient medicines, and furthermore, the government's investment to the health sector.
More important is the political commitment of the relevant government responsible for their own people's health.
Referring to the achievements made in the health service of the DPRK, he went on to say:
It is our government's unwavering determination to continue to further display the advantages of our universal free health care system for our people.
Today the hostile forces are enforcing the unprecedented unethical sanctions against the DPRK in order to stifle our socialist system, even people's life and health.
The government of the DPRK is fully committed to make the supreme ideal of "Health for All" a model reality in favor of our people by further consolidating our people-centered socialist health system, thus contributing to the global health and prosperity of the world population. -0-
