Now
south Korean people are asserting that American THAAD deployment would
generate nuclear war concern, adding THAAD cannot be deployed in any
parts of south Korea.
Inhabitants
in Seongju County and Gimcheon City of North Gyeongsang Province held a
joint rally in Seoul on September 8 in protest against the US moves to
deploy THAAD.
In
the middle of the rally the participants headed for the US Embassy to
thrust a written protest to it despite police's suppression.
The protest letter said that they are all against the THAAD deployment across south Korea.
The residents of Gimcheon hold a candlelit demo and protest take place in 50 cities at the weekend, the protest letter noted.
He called for the people to block the deployment in unity with Seongju and Gimcheon inhabitants.
At
the end of the rally the participants visited the bereaved families who
were staging a strike in demand of the probe into the truth about ferry
Sewol disaster at the Gwanghwamun plaza, and encouraged them.
Prior
to it, inhabitants met with the representative of the Minju Party and
noted that the on-going action is the issue on which hinges the right to
existence. They said they would turn out in the drive for a total
cancellation and reexamination of the plan for deploying THAAD.
The
Action for Checking THAAD Deployment held a press conference outside
the National Assembly on September 6 accusing the NA of sidestepping the
issue of deploying THAAD.
The
authorities are insisting that THAAD deployment is aimed to cope with
the "north's nuclear and missile threat" but it has already been proved
through the reports of the US Department of Defense and Congress that
THAAD is ineffective in light of the topography of the Korean peninsula,
the organization charged.
Opposition to THADD deployment is just the action against war and for the pullout of the US forces from south Korea. (4)
