Mt.

is the birthplace of leader
Kim Jong Il,
the great leader of the Korean people.

which means that leader

was born on Mt. Paektu
and grew amid the gun report of the anti-Japanese war.
The
slab engraved with the letter “Il”
is in the shape of a large looking glass, square and flat which
reflects the mind of the Korean people to hold leader
Kim Jong Il in
high esteem.
The
slab bearing the letter “Pong”
is in the shape of floral basket which portrays the best wishes for
leader Kim
Jong Il.
On
the peak there grow about 300 species of plants including over 10
