Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- A regional construction campaign for 2026 started in the DPRK, demonstrating the steadfast pioneering spirit and executive faculty of the Workers' Party of Korea. The Party has made sure that the precious successes, experience and admirable results, gained in the regional revolution for surely guaranteeing the comprehensive national rejuvenation, serve as the starting point of a new bolder campaign and an engine for acceleration every year.

The remarkable changes, in which the loud explosions heard at the groundbreaking ceremonies lead to the rousing cheers at the inauguration ceremonies every year, have become a new custom of Korean-style socialism to excite the whole country. A grand groundbreaking ceremony took place in Unnyul County on Thursday to signal the start of regional development policy-oriented construction in the new year, greatly boosting all the people's optimism about and confidence in the truthfulness and great prospect of the policy.

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, attended the ceremony.

Referring to the changes made in the laying of economic foundations, the competitive edge of regional industry and the understanding of provincial areas through the two-year course of implementing the WPK's regional development policy, he affirmed that the WPK would continue in the future to tap all potentialities for regional development and carry out the annual plans for it in a forceful and thoroughgoing way by adopting innovative and scientific methods.

Stressing the purpose of the WPK which has put forward the People’s Army in the vanguard of implementing its regional development policy, he said that our soldiers are the vanguard in carrying out the historic cause unprecedented since the founding of our country and the creators of the people’s wellbeing. He added that commanding officers of the units and subunits in charge of regional construction projects should keep deep in mind the Party’s intention, and make special efforts for the spiritual development of the soldier-builders so as to develop all of them into staunch adherents, defenders and implementers of the Party’s revolutionary ideology and into patriots who render an active contribution to the comprehensive development of our state.

He called on all soldier-builders to march forward more bravely and vigorously, fully displaying the temperament and mettle of the Korean People’s Army in the creative struggle for the prosperity of the state and for the good of our beloved people, true to their duty as the vanguard of the Party, the defender of the revolution and the sons and daughters of the people.

Today, we are launching the work for 2026, a worthwhile undertaking for implementing the regional development policy.

Reliable soldiers who have already performed great patriotic feats over the last two years in the vanguard of the era of gigantic transformation,

Officers and soldiers of the 124th Regiment under the 4th Corps,

I extend my heartfelt thanks and militant encouragement to all the soldier-builders who, mindful of the sacred mission of the times and with burning passion, are opening up a new chapter of regional economic development and cultural efflorescence by bringing delight in a new life to various parts of the country.

I also extend greetings to the members of the non-permanent promotion committees at all levels, officials of the design and other relevant sectors and the working people, who have been making responsible and devoted efforts to ensure that this worthwhile undertaking bear good fruition year after year.

Comrades,

We are now standing on the starting line of our gigantic struggle for another year, aimed at transforming the regions.

Holding at the beginning of a year groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction projects for the regional development policy has now become, for our Party and state and for provinces, cities and counties across the country, the first process of their work, which cannot be violated and which is of great importance.

Today’s groundbreaking ceremony, which signals the beginning of regional construction in the new year, again reminds us of the real meaning of this honourable struggle of ours.

The potentials for perfectly carrying out on the highest level possible the construction projects for this year, which will be much more gigantic and challenging than the previous ones, lie entirely in the surging spirit and a high level of creativity of the soldier masses.

As I have stressed on several occasions, our soldiers are not merely a construction workforce; they are the vanguard in carrying out the historic cause unprecedented since the founding of our country and the creators of the people’s wellbeing.

DPRK Missile Administration Test-fires Large-caliber MRLS

Pyongyang, January 28 (KCNA) -- The Missile Administration of the DPRK conducted a test-fire on Jan. 27 to verify the effectiveness of a large-caliber multiple rocket launcher system upgraded with new technology.

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, oversaw the test-fire.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un was accompanied by Kim Jong Sik, first vice department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Jang Chang Ha, general director of the Missile Administration of the DPRK.

Expressing satisfaction over the result of the test, he said:

"Today's test is of great significance in improving the effectiveness of our strategic deterrent.

That is because we have achieved technical upgrading of this weapon system to employ its most powerful characteristics in a most appropriate and effective way, and thus made it possible to apply it in specific attacks.

All the indexes have been improved to maximize its strike capability, and the mobility, intelligence and hitting accuracy of the rockets, in particular, have remarkably been upgraded.

The mobility of the newly-modernized launcher vehicle is also perfect.

The self-steered precisely guided flight system, which can neglect any outside intervention, is a major feature that demonstrates the superiority of this weapon system.

The course of achieving this success was not all plain sailing, but the task has wonderfully been carried out by our scientists and technicians.

I am sure that no other country would acquire such technology or possess such capability in a few years at least.

If they had seen this test, our enemies would obviously have recognized the modernity and development potential of our defence technology.

This is clear proof of the steady improvement and uninterrupted evolution of our defence technology.

As I have always emphasized, the relevant activities we conduct are clearly aimed at none other than further raising the level of our deterrent against a nuclear war.

Demonstrating such a will and capability is itself a responsible exercise of the deterrent.

This cannot be but indispensable for self-defence today.

I extend thanks to the defence science research group that has made devoted and painstaking efforts to perfect this weapon system.

The result and significance of this test will be a source of excruciating mental agony and serious threat to the forces that attempt to provoke a military confrontation with us.

Our artillerymen, possessed with the most precise, destructive and massive strike capability, will perform the responsible mission of deterring war."

The fired four rockets hit a target in the waters 358.5 km away from the point of launch.

Kim Jong Un stressed that to build up the most reliable offensive capability and enforce the deterrence strategy based on it is the invariable line of our Party's national defence policy.   The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un always stresses the need to do everything in Korean style according to the aesthetic sense of the people.

  One day in September 2013, he visited the May Day Stadium on Rungna Islet in the capital city.

  A lot of national and international games and events were held at the large and unique stadium with 150,000 seats in the past.

  That day Kim Jong Un learned about the seats and said that it was necessary to completely face-lift the stand by installing new nice-looking seats convenient for watching games. And he gave instructions on the remodelling of the stadium.

  He added that the remodelling of the stadium is an important work to further develop the Juche-based sports amid the ever-growing enthusiasm for sports and demonstrate the national power and civilization.

  Afterwards, he came to the stadium again to acquaint himself with the progress of the project. Putting special emphasis on harmonizing colours of the stand well, he said:

  If red, blue and white seats are arranged to symbolize the national flag, the stadium will look conspicuous.

  In the construction sector, not only the design but also the building work should represent a clear theme. In a word, even painting should clearly show the main point we are going to say.

  That was how the seats of the May Day Stadium were coloured red, blue and white symbolizing the national flag.

  The Kumsanpho Fish Pickling Factory produces different kinds of tasty pickled dishes in an industrial way and supplies them to the people.

  The factory was built according to a plan of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who is concerned about the people's diet.

  Kim Jong Un visited the factory several times and named it like that. Saying it is for the first time that we are building such a factory which cannot be found in any other country of the world, he taught the ways to build it into a model factory for processing seafood in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

  One day in August 2018, he called at the Kumsanpho Fish Pickling Factory regardless of the sweltering heat.

  He expressed satisfaction, saying the factory had done a lot of work.

  And he earnestly said the Kumsanpho Fish Pickling Factory should set a proper goal and make positive efforts to improve the tastes of pickled dishes and increase their varieties as it is a factory, a trailblazer in the fish pickling industry of the country.

  Going round various places of the factory, he gave detailed and meticulous instructions on all problems including the issue on further raising the level of sci-tech knowledge of its officials and employees.

  That day, he highly praised the officials and employees of the Kumsanpho Fish Pickling Factory time and again for having worked devotedly while overcoming the bottlenecks and difficulties in the spirit of self-reliance and with the might of science and technology.

  Like this, Kim Jong Un convinced the officials and employees of the factory once again that the only strength of breaking through the untrodden path lies in the spirit of self-reliance.

  At that time, hundreds of hectares of paddy fields and hundreds of dwellings had been inundated in the area due to days of rain and downpour.

  Learning about the damage that day, Kim Jong Un said it was fortunate that there was no loss of life and it was most important to stabilize the life of the victims as soon as possible by promptly supplying them with bedding, daily necessities, medicines and other essentials. And he gave a task to the departments of the Party Central Committee and the families of officials of its headquarters to carry on the work with responsibility.

 He added that the dwelling houses should be designed well, fully reflecting the will of the farmers and built in the forms they like and that the designs should be examined by farmers, not officials.

The British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea (BGSJI),the Korean Friendship Association of the UK( KFA UK),  and the UK Preparatory Committee for the Day of the Shining Star  issued a statement on the occasion of the 84th anniversary of the birth of the great leader comrade Kim Jong Il;
    

 The anniversary of the birth of comrade Kim Jong Il, the 16th of February, is celebrated by the Korean people and friends of People's Korea throughout the world as the ' Day of the Shining Star '. This is because the exploits and achievements of comrade Kim Jong Il shine like a bright star.

                           

                                                 

      Comrade Kim Jong Il was born the son of guerrillas on February 16th 1942.  Our  UK KFA  delegation visited his birthplace at Mt Paektu in August 2017. He did not come from a privileged background but was brought up in clothes made from old uniforms and spent his childhood in a simple log cabin. He witnessed the severe anti-Japanese war and later as a young boy also witnessed the Fatherland Liberation War against the US imperialist aggressors which saw not only the atrocities and devastation wrought by the US imperialists but also their defeat.

 Comrade Kim Jong Il lived a very simple life. As a student, he participated in the construction of Pyongyang. He also worked at a textile machinery factory at lathe no 26. Thus comrade Kim Jong Il was a true people's leader, always with the people sharing both hardship and joy with them. Often comrade Kim Jong Il did not celebrate his own birthday and dressed in an old parka.

                                                     

  At the beginning of the 1960s Kim Jong Il gave guidance to the historic Seoul Ryu  Kyong Su no 105 Guards Tank Division of the KPA. On the  19th of June 1964, he started work at the central committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. As well as practical day-to-day leadership he developed the ideology and theory of the WPK. He systematized the Juche Idea and created Kimilsungism. Because of his skills as a theoretician and ideologist plus his modest style as a people's leader, he was acclaimed as the successor to the great leader President  Kim Il Sung.
                                             
                             

 Comrade Kim Jong Il steered the DPRK through the difficult period of the "arduous march  ". Even though the DPRK faced difficulties he made sure that a high level of social benefits was maintained. Vans with soya milk for children were always seen on the streets of the DPRK in this period.
                                                                

 
     Declaring "Expect No Change from me!", comrade Kim Jong Il combated the pressure and machinations of US imperialism. He made sure that the DPRK continued firmly along the road of Juche charted by comrade Kim Il Sung by upholding the banner of Juche further supplemented it with the Songun idea and Songun politics the treasured sword for defending independence.                            

    The achievements of comrade Kim Jong Il shine brightly. Today the DPRK is the world's most independent country. It is seen as a country that does not take nonsense from any imperialists or big powers. This is the legacy of comrade Kim Jong Il, a legacy that is today further developed and carried forward by the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, the one and only successor to the Juche cause.

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un Guides Creation of Sculptures for Memorial Museum of Combat Feats at Overseas Military Operations

Pyongyang, January 26 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, visited the Mansudae Art Studio on January 25 to guide the creation of sculptures to be erected and displayed at the Memorial Museum of Combat Feats at the Overseas Military Operations.

Accompanying him were leading officials of the C.C., WPK and No Kwang Chol, minister of National Defence of the DPRK.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un was courteously greeted on the spot by leading officials of the Mansudae Art Studio.

He learned about the creation while looking at symbolic tower, main group sculpture, group of subsidiary theme sculptures, decorative engravings for outer wall, etc.

He expressed satisfaction over the fact that the overall creation of sculptures has been conducted on the principle of ensuring the monumental value and symbolism at the highest level in line with the intention of our Party to build the Memorial Museum of Combat Feats at the Overseas Military Operations into an edifice of lasting value which will convey forever the legendary feats and glorious life of admirable sons of the DPRK, the defenders of honour.

He said with his great satisfaction that the symbolic tower of the memorial museum of combat feats was well made in detail.

Many statues of heroes produced in the war for defending the country in the 1950s such as Ri Su Bok, Jo Kun Sil and Kang Ho Yong have been erected in different parts of the country until now, but today figures of ordinary soldiers of our country, who can be seen everywhere, imposingly stand on the peak of honour, the platform of dignity, embodying the political and ideological mightiness peculiar to the Korean People's Army, he said, adding: This is a precious reality proving not only the succession but also the victory of our cause. Distinguished heroism of the victorious wartime generation has been developed into mass heroism of the whole army, and herein lies a proud review of our Party's long history of building a politically and ideologically powerful army.

Saying that our army proved before the times the law of strength, the immutable truth that the strong in spirit always emerge victorious, and this is the absolute strength of our army only that no any other country's army can possess, he underscored the need to ensure high artistic portrayal and delicate perfection in all details so that every visitor to the memorial museum can feel the faith in certain victory cherished by the heroic soldiers, standing in front of even a sculpture, and always remember them.

He indicated the orientation and ways for completing the creative work at the highest level, including the issues arising in more vividly symbolizing in every sculpture the militant stamina, fierce offensive spirit, noble comradeship and ardent patriotism of our army, highlighting in a peculiar way the respects of the country and the people to the heroic life and sacred soul of the brave soldiers, ensuring formative refinement in the distribution and arrangement of substantial elements in depiction of sculptures and making the best of the monument's characteristics by harmoniously unifying the sculptural forms and architectural structures.

He expressed expectation and belief that the creative group of the studio would present admirable creations with its utmost sincerity in reflection of the eternal gratitude and respects of our Party, government, army and people to the genuine patriots. -

  One day in January 2015, he visited the Ryuwon Footwear Factory.

  Looking round different places of the factory, he said all the consumer goods are directly connected with the people's living.

  And he added that the factories and enterprises in the field of light industry should not rest content with making and displaying trial products and samples or showcasing them at shops, but normalize production and steadily improve the quality of the products so that the people can actually benefit from them.

Today is the International Day of Education.

Proceeding from the renewed recognition of the important role of education in achieving peace and development, the UN General Assembly designated the “International Day of Education” with the aim of encouraging the development of the equitable and quality education.

Eight years have passed since then.

Not with standing these efforts, the data released by UNESCO shows that a large number of children and adolescents fail to attend school and hundreds of millions globally cannot read nor do basic calculation.

This mirrors the present gloomy situation of the global education.

But it is a different story for children and students in the DPRK who hold in high esteem respected Marshal Kim Jong Un as their father.

All of them are growing into the masters of future, enjoying the benefits of the universal compulsory free education system, wherever they are.

In July 2024, a record-level flood swept several parts of our country.

Respected Marshal Kim Jong Un personally went out to the dangerous flood-hit area to organize and command the rescue operation on the spot. He was deeply concerned with the child rearing and suspension of education during rehabilitation.

He repeatedly said that the rehabilitation would take months but it should not affect education of children. He took measures to put in place the emergency system where the state takes full responsibility and ensures upbringing and education of children and students from flood-affected areas in a safe and comfortable environment.

Thanks to the warm care of respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, thousands of children and students from flood-hit areas were invited to the capital city of Pyongyang as special guests and could learn to their hearts’ content and in the best conditions for 130 days until the completion of rehabilitation project.

130 days can be said to be a moment in one’s lifetime.

But even one single moment could not be missed in educating our children thanks to the noble love for posterity cherished by respected Marshal Kim Jong Un who sets the upbringing and education of children as the prime state affair which can be surpassed by none.

Indeed, the warm care of the great father fully guarantees the right to education for all children across the country.

From Distraction to Empowerment – The Juche Idea as an Answer to the Psychosocial Emptiness of the West(article first published in "People's Korea Today " , journal of the Korean Friendship Association UK )

 

Imagine a room filled to bursting with images, sounds, and stories, like an endless stream.

And yet, when this stream is interrupted for a moment and the screen goes black, what remains? 

Often only a diffuse feeling of emptiness, a silence that cries out for true fulfillment.

This psychosocial emptiness is the true product of the Western culture industry. It is no accident, but the result of a system that turns people into passive consumers of their own alienation.

Standing in opposition to this is a completely different principle: the Juche idea, which places the human being not as a consumer, but as the master and shaper of their own history at its center. 

We will explore how the resulting understanding of culture does not distract but empowers, and what this reveals about two fundamentally different ways of thinking about society.

The Western entertainment industry works like a perfect machine of subtraction. It withdraws substance to create a vacuum that it must then fill itself. It separates us from action by replacing our own doing with the observation of spectacle.

Why cook for yourself when you can watch superstars cook?

Why cultivate a real community when you are"subscribed" to a fictional TV family?

It separates us from community by individualizing every experience.

The shared cinema auditorium became the solitary streaming account; the collective stadium feeling became the individual gaming marathon.

The"heroes" it celebrates are lone fighters whose triumph is won against the world, not with it. And finally, it separates us from meaning by reducing complex human needs, for belonging, dignity, meaningful activity, to the simple cycle of tension and release, cliffhanger and reward.

The result is a reciprocal veneration in an empty cycle.

We venerate fictional idols who can give us nothing back except the next episode, the next level, the next bonus, and we feel increasingly isolated in the process.

This system does not produce a rich culture, but a culture of exhaustion. It leaves us with the feeling of being merely spectators in a foreign narrative, while our own story fades.

The Juche idea, as developed by Kim Il Sung, fundamentally reverses this logic. Its core is not subtraction, but empowerment. Its heart is the principle of Chajusong, sovereignty and self-reliance.

Juche places the human being as a conscious, creative subject at the center, one who actively shapes their destiny and environment, not as an object to whom history simply happens. It is the philosophical negation of the passive consumer. This sovereignty unfolds not against, but through the collective, the masses of the people. The individual finds their full realization as part of the sovereign people, who master their destiny together.

Here lies the seed of a completely different sense of community. While the Western model creates a vacuum, the Juche idea is concerned with filling it with creative agency.

The feeling it strives for is not the dull numbing of entertainment, but the clear, strong feeling of self-efficacy and shared responsibility for a common future.

From this view of humanity stems a radically different understanding of art and culture. In the Juche teaching, they are not commodities, but a "spiritual weapon for the revolution and construction." They follow the principle of Seonghyangseong, partisanship. Art has a clear side: the side of the people and construction. Its task, therefore, is not to "entertain" or "alienate," but to educate, unite, and mobilize for empowerment. In place of fictional series heroes step the heroes of real life: the workers at the machines, the farmers in the fields and greenhouses, the soldiers at the border, the researchers in the laboratories, the pioneers at the forefront. A monumental painting showing smiling steelworkers, a symphonic work singing of the struggle for national liberation, or a novel describing the collective construction of a factory, all of this serves a purpose. It connects the individual emotionally with the great collective project of the nation. It transforms the abstract idea of sovereignty into a concrete, palpable image. Culture here becomes the mortar that holds the collective together, and the mirror that reflects back to it its own creative potential and dignity. The veneration is not for an unattainable star, but for one's own, united creative power.

In the end, two fundamentally different maps for human existence in the 21st century stand side by side. One shows a labyrinthine entertainment complex we can immerse ourselves in to forget who we are. Its endpoint is a technologically perfected, yet existentially impoverished individuality. It is an individuality that can no longer bear the silence in its self-chosen bubble and for which the natural language of interpersonal care has been lost, replaced by the hollow phrases and mimicked attitudes of its media idols.

The other map shows a common project, a field of collective agency, in which every human being is seen and strengthened as a conscious builder of a shared future. Its goal is not escape from reality, but its conscious, sovereign, and solidary shaping.

The choice between these paths is more than a political or cultural preference; it is existential. Is it about drowning out the inner emptiness with ever new, loud distractions? Or is it about filling the silence with the meaning, the certainty of agency, and the warm connectedness of a self-authored story?

The Juche idea, in its uncompromising concentration on the human as the master of their destiny, offers a clear answer to this question. It makes its essence not only intellectually graspable for the seeker, but, in its ideal, emotionally palpable as the call to no longer be a spectator, but a co-creator of shared reality.
